About the Instructor:
David Brushwood, JD, RPh
David Brushwood is a pharmacist-attorney who graduated from both the School of Pharmacy and the School of Law at the University of Kansas. After practicing both professions, David joined the faculty of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1982. He moved to West Virginia University in 1985, and then to the University of Florida in 1990. He retired from the University of Florida in 2014, and he now holds the title of Professor Emeritus of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at that university. In 2015, David accepted a position at the University of Wyoming, where he founded an online Master of Science program in Health Services Administration. He served as the director of that program until 2018, when he stepped down from administrative responsibilities, and he continues to teach coursework online for PharmD students and MS students at the University of Wyoming.
David has published over 250 scholarly articles in journals such as “The Journal of Legal Medicine,” “Law, Medicine and Health Care,” “The Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics,” “The Drake Law Review,” “ The Journal of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacotherapy,” “Pain Medicine,” “The American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy,” and the “Journal of Pharmacy Practice.” David has twice received the James Hartley Beal Award for the Best Paper in Pharmacy Law, and he was twice selected as a Mayday Scholar by the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics. He has received the Pellegrino Medal and the American Society for Pharmacy Law Founders Award. He is a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association.
David has given over 200 presentations at professional meetings. He currently is a content developer for continuing pharmacy education programs with CEimpact. His focus areas of interest are patient safety, pain management policy, pharmaceutical homicide prevention, risk management strategies, and the legal and ethical responsibilities of pharmacy professionals.
David and his wife Chris have recently moved to Wenatchee, Washington, where they can be near their children and grandchildren. They enjoy attending film festivals, hiking, snowshoeing, and sampling the many fine wines that are produced in Washington.
